Founded in 1890, as a partnership between William A. Lydon and Fred C. Drews. The company was originally named the Lydon and Drews Dredging Company. The company provided services Chicago’s shore infrastructure and river lock system.
In 1905, the company was renamed as the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company. The company now operates on every domestic coastline and throughout many inland waterways in the United States.
The company has also operated in several foreign markets, throughout the Middle East, Latin America, and other regions around the world.
In addition, the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company maintains a fleet of smaller vessels that specialize in dredging challenging shallow water environments, such as lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and inland channels.
In 2020, the company relocated from Oak Brook, Illinois to Houston, Texas.
