Built in 1981, by Kenner Marine and Machinery of Laplace, Louisiana (hull #63) as the Volunteer State for the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company of Oak Brook, Illinois.
In 2025, the tug was acquired by Lake Michigan Contractors Incorporated of Holland, Michigan. Where she retained her name.
She is a twin screw tug, rated at 750 horsepower.
