Founded in 1984, the company was based in Seattle, Washington. As a non union oil and gravel subsidy of the Brix Maritime Company of Seattle, Washington.

In 1993, the Brix Maritime Company was acquired by Foss Maritime of Seattle, Washington. However, Sea Coast Transportation Incorporated remained in operation.

In 2007, Sea Coast Transportation was acquired by the K-Sea Transportation Partnership of East Brunswick, New Jersey. Where the company became part of K-Sea Transportation's Pacific Division.

In 2011, the K-Sea Transportation Partnership was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the company remained as part of Kirby's Pacific Division.
