Built in 1982, by Crumpler's Shipbuilding Company of Orange, Texas (hull #840) as the Alamo Challenger for the Alamo Barge Lines of Houston, Texas.

In 1985, the tug was acquired by Hollywood Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Challenger.

In 1999, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2021, the tug was acquired by the Western Contracting Corporation of Sioux City, Iowa. Where she was renamed as the Cornelius O'Connor.

Powered by two, Cummins KTA38-M0 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 7:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,700 horsepower.
