Built in 1979 by Main Iron Works of Houma, Louisiana as the Candice L. (hull #349) for Robbins Maritime of Norfolk, Virginia.
In 1998, she was acquired by Bay Towing Industries of Norfolk, Virginia, where the tug was renamed as the Bay Star.
In 2009, the tug was again acquired by Robbins Maritime, where her name was returned to Candice L.
Her powerplant consists of two Cummins KT 855 diesels with 6:1 reduction gear turning two 56 (in) by 46 (in) propellors, for a rated 1,000 horsepower.
Electrical service is provided by two GM 2-71 20kW generators. Her capacities are for 7,500 gallons of fuel oil, 140 gallons of lube oil and 2,860 gallons of potable water.
