Founded in the 1980's by John and Floyd Ward. The Ward Towing Company is based in Deltaville, Virginia.

The company found its roots in the 1920's. When Johnny Ward Sr. founded his company with wooden work boats. Hauling cargo from oysters and crabs, to grain, junk, and scrap. When his three sons graduated from high school he bought each of them a boat, and put them to work. One son opted to not continue in the industry, whereas John and Floyd Ward decided to continues on.

In the 1980's John Ward, and Floyd Ward acquired their first tugboat, and began transporting corn, wheat, barley, and soybeans exclusively. With that acquisition, the company increased their carrying capabilites went from a cargo capacity of about 1,800 bushels, to 125,000 bushels.

John and Floyd decided to sell the last two wooden boats from their fleet, and acquire their first tugboat. A businessman purchased the wooden boats. Which became floating dockside dining rooms for a restaurant at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland.

A family owned, and family operated company. The Ward Towing Company's vessels, primarily provide dry cargo transportation in, and around the Chesapeake Bay Area.
