Built in 1962, by the Gibbs Gas and Engine Corporation of Jacksonville, Florida (hull #MSZ00436D595) as the Towline (WYTL 65605) for the United States Coast Guard.

In 1995, she was acquired by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. For use as a training vessel, where she was renamed as the Towline.

In 2011, the vessel was acquired by Smith Marine Incorporated of Marblehead, Massachusetts. Where she retained her name. And, was converted for use as a towing vessel.

Powered by a single Caterpillar D375 diesel engine. Turning a single, stainless steel, fixed pitch propeller. She is a single screw tug, rated at 500 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 30kW, Caterpillar C-311 generator sets.
