Built in 1980, by Louis G. Ortis Boat Company of Krotz Springs, Louisiana (hull #55) as the Gulf Dispatcher for Pontchartrain Materials Incorporated of Slidell, Louisiana.

In 1993, the tug was acquired by the OL Kirkpatrick Company of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Marine Legend.

In 2000, she was acquired by the Crosby Marine Transportation Company of Golden Meadow, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Carl Joseph.

Powered by two, GM 12V-71 diesel engines. With reduction gears, at a ratio of a 7:1. Turning two, stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers, with flanking rudders. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,000 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 30kW generator sets. The tug's capacities are 18,000 gallons of fuel oil, and 2,500 gallons of potable water.
