Built in 1971, by Superior Boat Works of Greenville, Mississippi (hull #116) as the Capt. W.F. Fredeman for the Port Arthur Towing Company of Port Arthur, Texas.

In 1979, the tug was sold. Where she was renamed as the Alliance Prince.

In 1986, she was acquired by Dixie Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where the tug was renamed as the Dixie Leader.

In 1996, the tug was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where she was retained her name.

In 2018, she was phased out of active service, and was "laid up."

Powered by two, GM 16-567C diesel engines. She is a twin screw, towboat, rated at 3,200 horsepower.
