Built in 1967, by Main Iron Works Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #189) as the Traveler for Albert E. Magill Jr. of Houston, Texas.

In 1970, the tug was acquired by Dixie Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Dixie Traveler.

In 1998, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2018, the Kirby Corporation renamed the tug as Traveler.

In 2019, she was acquired by Patton Tully Marine Incorporated of Memphis, Tennessee. Where the tug was renamed as the Virginia Carol.

Powered by two, Volvo D12 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 5.16:1. She is a twin screw, towboat rated at 900 horsepower.
