Built in 1981, by Rayco Shipbuilders and Repairs of Bourg, Louisiana (hull #82) as the Chronicle for Velvet Marine Systems Incorporated of Hahnville, Louisiana.

In 1987, the tug was acquired by the Anthony J. Bertucci Construction Company Incorporated of Jefferson, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Miss Nyda.

In 1990, she was acquired by Ingram Barge Company of Nashville, Tennessee. Where the tug was renamed as the David O'Neill.

In 1994, the tug was acquired by Coastal Towing Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Karly New.

In 2002, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug was renamed as the Capt. Ronnie Payne.

Powered by two, GM 16V-149 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 7:1. She is a twin screw, towboat, rated at 1,800 horsepower.
