SOCONY 5

Built in 1927, by the Bethlehem Steel Company of Staten Island, New York (hull #775) as the Socony 5 for Socony Vacuum Oil Company of New York, New York.

In 1955, the Socony Vacuum Oil Company became the Socony Mobil Oil Company of New York, New York. Where the tug retained her name.

The tug was later acquired by the Portsmouth Navigation Company of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Where the tug was renamed as the Pegasus.

In 1965, the Portsmouth Navigation Company was acquired by the Moran Towing Company of New York, New York. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1974, she was acquired by Sanford Silverman Incorporated of Pompano Beach, Florida. Where the tug was renamed as the Houseboat. And, converted to a recreational houseboat.

The tug is no longer listed in documentation. Powered by a single, compound steam engine. With a single Scotch boiler, 14(ft)9(in). dia. by 12(ft). Turning a single, propeller for a rated 850 horsepower.
