Built in 1974, by Main Iron Works Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #294) as the Ellen F. McAllister for the McAllister Brothers Towing Company of New York, New York.

In 1977, the tug was leased out, where she was renamed as the Linda B.

In 1980, the tug was returned to the McAllister Brothers Towing Company of New York, New York. Where she was renamed as the Bruce A. McAllister.

Powered by two, sixteen cylinder, EMD 16-645-E2 diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.708:1. Turning two, cast steel, fixed pitch propellers. The tug is outfitted with kort nozzles, and flanking rudders. She is a twin screw tug rated at 4,000 horsepower

The tug has a capacity of 57,631 gallons of fuel oil, 1,075 gallons of lube oil, and 1,765 gallons of potable water.
