Built in 1919, by the Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Company of Green Bay, Wisconsin as the Tomah for the United States Shipping Board.
Towards the end of World War I, contracts were placed for over one thousand wooden ships, tugs and barges. However, most of the contracts were cancelled and only five hundred eighty-nine ships were completed. Most that where completed were tugs, were built by established boatbuilders, the completed vessels where placed up for sale.
In 1921, the tug was acquired by Federal Shipbuilding Incorporated of Newark, New Jersey. Where the tug was renamed as the Federal No. 1.
In 1936, she was acquired by the Koppers Coal Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Where the tug was renamed as the Jupiter.
In 1947, the tug was acquired by the Simmons-Lee Lighterage and Transit Company of New York, New York. Where she was renamed as the Lee.
In 1948, she was acquired by Daniel McAllister of the McAllister Brothers Towing Company of New York, New York. Where the tug retained her name.
In 1952, she went out of documentation. Her current and or final disposition is unknown.
She was a single screw tug, rated at 450 horsepower.
