Built in 1968, by Berg Shipyard Incorporated of Blaine, Washington (hull #143) as the Wasp for the Western Towboat Company Incorporated of Seattle, Washington.

Originally powered by a single, Caterpillar 343 diesel engine. The tug was later re powered with a single, Caterpillar 353 diesel engine.

She was then rebuilt, with a new wheelhouse. Reconfigured, and re powered with two, Caterpillar 3408 diesel engines. With Twin Disc 516 reduction gears, at a ratio of 6:1. Turning two, 68(in) by 63(in) stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers, mounted Nautican kort nozzles, she is a twin screw tug, rated at 1,800 horsepower.

Her electrical service was provided by two, 40kW John Deere generator sets. The tug's capacities are 10,000 gallons of fuel, and 200 gallons of lube oil.

The towing gear consists of a single drum, Nordic towing winch. Outfitted with 1,800(ft) 1.25(in) towing wire.
