Built in 1997, by Quality Shipyards Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #1216) as the John Paul Eckstein for the Marquette Transportation Company of Jefferson, Louisiana.

In 2025, the tug was renamed as the Marquette Veteran.

Powered by two, Caterpillar 3612 diesel engines. With Reintjes reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.75:1. Turning two, stainless steel, variable pitch, Avdl 120(in) by 133(in) propellers, mounted in kort nozzles. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 8,400 horsepower.

Her electrical services is provided by two, Caterpillar 3306 generator sets. The tug's capacities are 128,092 gallons of fuel, and 1,000 gallons of lube oil.
