McALLISTER BROTHERS

Built in 1963, by the Mobile Ship Repair Company of Mobile, Alabama (hull #YTB-711) as the YTB-711 (Keokuk) for the United States Navy.

Her keel was laid down on 05 December 5th, 1963. The tug was launched on May 21st, 1964. And, she was delivered to the United States Navy on August 23rd, 1964. The tug entered service for the United States Navy on September 1st, 1964. Where she was allocated to the First Naval District at Portsmouth Navy Yard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The third tug to bear the name for the United States Navy. She was named for the city of Keokuk, Iowa. Named for the leader of the Sauk Indians, he was born in Illinois around 1780.

His name has been translated as "one who moves about alert" and as "Running Fox." His career was distinguished by opposition to Sauk participation in the Black Hawk War and by skillful diplomacy in negotiations with agents of the Federal Government and leaders of other tribes. Keokuk passed away in 1848 in Kansas.

She was stricken from the Navy Register on in August of 2023. And was allocated to the General Services Administration for disposition and or sale.

In 2023, the tug was acquired by McAllister Towing and Transportation of New York, New York. Where she was renamed as the McAllister Brothers.

Powered by a single, ten cylinder, Fairbanks Morse diesel engine. She is a single screw tug, rated at 2,000 horsepower.

Her electrical service was provided by two, Detroit Diesel 4-71 generator sets.
