Built in 1976, by Thrift Shipbuilding of Sulfur, Louisiana (hull #) as the J.H. Tanner for Jack Tanner Towing of Havana, Illinois.

She was later acquired by Kindra Lake Towing of Chicago, Illinois. Where she was renamed as the Tanner.

In 2022 the assets of Kindra Marine were acquired by Middle River Marine of Mokena, Illinois. Where the tug was renamed Ava Renee.
