Built in 1974, by Harvey Industries Incorporated of Harvey, Louisiana as the Mister Dufrene for American Tugs Incorporated of Harvey, Louisiana.

In 1981, the tug was acquired by Norman J. Frederic Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the John R. Rice.

In 1982, she was acquired by American Tugs Incorporated Harvey, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the John 1:1.

In 2006, American Tugs Incorporated renamed the tug as the Born Again.

Repowered in 2006, she is powered by two Caterpillar 3412 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears at a ratio of 7:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,400 horsepower.
