Built in 1975 by RAYCO Shipbuilders and Repairers at Bourg, Louisiana (hull #44) as the Ronald Lecompte for the Point Landing Fuel Corporation of Avondale, Louisiana.

The tug was later acquired by Wood Towing of Avondale, Louisiana. Where she retained her name.

In 2015, wood towing renamed the tug as the Ben Nolan.

Powered by two GM 16V-71 diesel engines, with Twin Disc reduction gear at a ratio of 5.17:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,000 horsepower.
