Built in 1979 by Hudson Shipbuilders Incorporated at Pascagoula, Mississippi as the John W. Stone for John W. Stone Oil Distributor of Gretna, Louisiana.

Originally powered by two GM 12V-149 diesel engines, in 2014 the tug was repowered with two Mitsubishi S12A2-Y2MPTK diesel engines turning two propellers. For a rated 1,880 horsepower.
