Built in 1977, by the Louis G. Ortis Boat Company of Krotz Springs, Louisiana (hull #24) as the Shana M. for the Mid-Coast Barge Corporation of Port Aransas, Texas.

In 1983, the tug was acquired by the Loyd W. Richardson Construction Company of Aransas Pass, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Lillian Thwing.

In 1994, she was acquired by Brown Water Marine Service Incorporated of Ingleside, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Brown Water V.

Re powered in 2007, she is powered by two Caterpillar 3406 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 5.15:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 800 horsepower.
