Built in 1984, by Jeffboat Incorporated of Jeffersonville, Indiana (hull #82-2521) as the Seminole Princess for the Florida Barge Lines Corporation of New Orleans, Louisiana. Although the unit was operated by the Canal Barge Company Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 2001, the tug was acquired by the Marquette Transportation Company of Jefferson, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the Jacob Michael Eckstein.

Powered by two, EMD 12-645E7B-1042 diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of
4.48:1. Turning two, Avdl 10(ft) by 97(in), stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers, mounted in kort nozzles. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 4,200 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, John Deere 6081 generator sets. The tug's capacities are 71,748 gallons of fuel, and 1,700 gallons of lube oil.
