Built in 2008, by Steiner Shipyard Incorporated of Bayou LaBatre, Alabama (hull #510) as the Miss Layla for the Marquette Transportation Company of Jefferson, Louisiana.

In 2009, the Marquette Transportation Company renamed the tug as the Layla Renee.

Powered by three, Tier II compliant, Cummins QSK-19 M diesel engines. With Twin Disc MG 5205 reduction gears, at a ratio of 6.5:1. Turning three, 72(in) by 72(in) stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers, mounted in kort nozzles. She is a triple screw tug, rated at 3,600 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 75kW, Cummins 6BT generator sets. The tug's capacities are 50,000 gallons of fuel, 220 gallons of lube, and 8,000 gallons of potable water.

The towing equipment consists of a SMATCO 46, double drum, waterfall, towing winch. Outfitted with 2000(ft) of 1.50(in) towing wire.
