Built in 1975 by the Louis G. Ortis Boat Company of Krotz Springs, Louisiana as the Royal Sonesta (hull #12) for Royal Marine Transportation of Harvey, Louisiana.

The tug was later sold and renamed as the Mormon Island.

The tugboat was later acquired by the Eaton Tugboat Company of San Pedro, California. Where she was renamed as the Golden Eagle.

She was eventually acquired by Westar Marine Services of San Francisco, California. Where the tug was renamed as the Solana.

Her powerplant consists of two Cummins KTA38-M1 diesels turning two propellors in nozzles. For a rated 2,000 horsepower.
