Built in 1977, by Superior Boat Works of Greenville, Mississippi (hull #129) as the Barbara Brent for the Brent Transportation Company of Greenville, Mississippi.

In 1989, the tug was acquired by Dixie Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Dixie Express.

In 1996, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2018, the tug was phased out of active service, and was "laid up."

Powered by two, GM 8-567CR diesel engines. She is a twin screw, towboat, rated at 1,800 horsepower.
