Built in 1981, Bayou Shipyard Incorporated of Bridge City, Texas (hull #117) as the the Delta Diamond 9 for Dowell Schlumpberger of Houma, Louisiana.

In 1994, the tug was acquired by the Western Towing Company of Channelview, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Roan.

In 2004, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2018, the tug was acquired by the Ohio River Salvage Company Incorporated of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Where she was renamed as the Mason Tate.

Repowered in 1999, the tug is driven by two Volvo TAMD-122A diesel engines. With Caterpillar reduction gears, at a ratio of 6:1. She is a twin screw, towboat, rated at 800 horsepower.
