Built in 1976, by the Dravo Corporation of Neville Island, Pennsylvania (hull #6615) as the Ona Fay for Swift Marine Incorporated of East Liverpool, Ohio.

In 1979, the tug was acquired by the Chotin Transportation Company of New Orleans, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Charlotte.

In 1992, she was acquired by the Brent Towing Company of Greenville, Mississippi. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1998, the tug was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where she retained her name.

Powered by two, GM 8-645E5 diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 3.79:1. She is a twin screw, towboat, outfitted with kort nozzles, rated at 2,800 horsepower.
