Built in 1872, by John H. Dialogue and Sons of Camden, New Jersey (hull #166) as the Major.

In 1889, the tug was sold. Where she was renamed as the Oceanic.

In 1898, she was acquired by the Moran Towing Company of New York, New York. Where the tug was renamed as the Peter Cahill.

In 1904, the tug was scrapped. She was single screw, rated at 64 horsepower.
