BENSON GEORGE MORAN

Built in 2017, by Washburn and Doughty Associates of East Boothbay, Maine (hull #121) as the Benson George Moran for the Moran Towing Corporation of New Canaan, Connecticut.

Designed "in house" by Washburn and Doughty. The tug is based upon the yard's previous 92(ft) by 32(ft) designs. The increased length and beam of the design allowed for increased horsepower. While maintaining the maneuvering characteristics and handling capabilities.

The tug is named for the Moran Towing Corporation's chairman Paul Tregurtha’s grandson.

Powered by two, Tier IV compliant, Caterpillar 3516 diesel engines. With Rolls-Royce US 255, z drives. The drives are fitted with 110(in) stainless steel propellers. She is a twin screw tractor tug, rated at 6,000 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided two, Tier IV compliant, 99kw, three-phase John Deere 6068TFM76 generator sets. The tug's capacities are 40,000 gallons of fuel oil, with 3,300 gallons for fuel overflow. 1,000 gallons of lube oil, 175 gallons of gear oil, 175 gallons of hydraulic oil, 105 gallons for coolant holding, 2,200 gallons of grey water and or treated sewage, 4,000 gallons of potable water, 15,000 gallons of ballast water, and 1,000 gallons of dirty oil.

The towing gear consists of a Markey DEPC 52 electric hawser winch, mounted on the bow. Outfitted with 400(ft) of Cortland 9.5” Plasma line. And, a Markey CEWC 60 electric hawser capstan aft.
