Built in 1981, by Brice Shipbuilding Incorporated of Chauvin, Louisiana (hull #1) as the the L.J. Broussard for the Canal Barge Company of New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 1994, she was acquired by the Vane Brothers Company of Baltimore, Maryland. Where she was renamed as the Alexander Duff. Named for the company president's eldest son, Alexander Duff Hughes.

In 2018, the tug was acquired by Ward Towing Incorporated of Deltaville, Virginia. Where she retained her name.

Powered by two, Cummins KTA-19-M diesel engines. With Twin Disc 518-1 reduction gears, at a ratio of 5.92:1. She is a square bow, twin screw, push boat rated at 1,000 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 74kW, John Deere 4045TF270 generator sets. The tug's capacites are 8,800 gallons of fuel, 125 gallons of lube oil, 250 gallons of slop oil, 75 gallons of sewage, and 10,000 gallons of water.
