Built in 1978, by Zigler Shipyards Incorporated of Jennings, Louisiana (hull #TLY34732D888) as the Domar Captain for the Domar Ocean Transportation Company of Jennings, Louisiana.

The Domar Ocean Transportation Company was division of Leevac Marine Incorporated of Jennings, Louisiana. The tug was based out of Morgan City, Louisiana. Where she worked with the petroleum barge Domar 118.

In 1989, the tug was acquired by the Hess Oil Corporation of New York, New York. Where she was renamed as the Spartan.

In 1993, the Hess Oil Corporation's fleet was acquired by Leevac Marine Incorporated of Jennings, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the Spartan Service.

In 1997, Leevac merged with Hornbeck Offshore of Covington, Louisiana. To form Hornbeck Offshore Transportation. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2009, she was phased out of active service. And, the tug was "laid up" in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 2012, the tug was acquired by Marinoil Servicios Maritimos Limited of Veracruz, Mexico. Where she was renamed as the Champayan.

She was powered by two, EMD 12-645-E6 diesel engines. With Lufkin reduction gears, at a ratio of 6.11:1. Turning two, fixed Pitch, high efficiency, four bladed propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 3,000 horsepower.

Her electrical service was provided by two, 75kW generators. Driven by two, GM 86V-71 diesel engines.

The tug's towing equipment consisted of a single drum, towing winch. Outfitted with 2,000(ft) of 2(in) diameter, stainless steel towing cable. Driven by a single GM 4-71 diesel engine.
