Built in 1967, by Main Iron Works of Houma, Louisiana (hull #174) as the Gulf Duke for Gulf Mississippi Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas.

In 1978, Gulf Mississippi Marine Incorporated became Gulf Fleet Marine Incorporated. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1979, the tug was acquired by the Reinauer Transportation Companies of Staten Island, New York. Where she retained her name.

In 1979, the Reinauer Transportation Companies renamed the tug as the Stephen Scott.

Powered by two, Caterpillar diesel engines. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 3,400 horsepower.
