Built in 1981, by Halter Marine Incorporated of Lockport, Louisiana (hull #982) as the Nick Candies for the Otto Candies Company of Des Allemands, Louisiana.
In 2004, the tug was acquired by the Smith Maritime Company Honolulu, Hawaii. Which was a part of the Hawaiian Interisland Towing Company of Honolulu, Hawaii. Where she was renamed as the Nalani.
In 2007, the Smith Maritime Company was acquired by the K-Sea Transportation Partnership Incorporated of East Brunswick, New Jersey. Where the tug retained her name.
In 2011, the K-Sea Transportation Partnership Incorporated was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.
In 2014, the tug was acquired by the Vogel Equipment Company of San Francisco, California. Where the tug retained her name. However, she was to be operated under the Panamanian Flag, under the management of the Remolcadores De Altura Company of Panama City, Panama.
In 2015, the tug sank two and half miles west of Barbers Point Harbor, Oahu.
She was powered by two, EMD 12V 645 diesel engines. The tug was was a twin screw, rated at 3,000 horsepower.
The tug's capacites were 97,790 gallons of fuel, 1,999 gallons of lube oil, and 11,876 gallons of potable water.
Her towing equipment consisted of a Markey TDSD-32, double drum, towing winch. Outfitted with 2,000(ft) of 2(in) towing wire.
