Built in 1979, by the Diamond Manufacturing Company of Savannah, Georgia (hull #471) as the Denia for the Suderman and Young Towing Company of Houston, Texas.

The Suderman and Young Towing Company along with the Bay Houston Towing Company of Houston, Texas. Maintained an operating company, the G and H Towing Company of Houston, Texas.

In 2010, the tug was acquired by the McAllister Towing and Transportation Company of New York, New York. Where she was renamed as the James McAllister.

In 2017, she was "laid up" at McAllister Towing and Transportation's yard in Charleston, South Carolina.

Powered by single, EMD 16-645-E7 diesel engine. With a Reintjes WAV 3400 reduction gear, at a ratio of 5.053:1. She is a single screw tug, fitted with a flanking rudder. For a rated 3,070 horsepower.

The tug's capacities are 46,932 gallons of fuel, 1,256 gallons of lube oil, and 3,225 gallons of potable water.
