Built in 1981, by Freeport Shipbuilding Incorporated of Freeport, Florida (hull #1) as the Viper for the Ashman Towing Company Incorporated of Jacksonville, Florida.

In 1994, the tug was acquired by the Crosby Marine Transportation Company of Golden Meadow, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Tara Elizabeth.

Powered by two, GM 8V-92 diesel engines. Turning two, stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 900 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 20kW generator sets. The tug's capacities are 8,000 gallons of fuel oil, and 4000 gallons of potable water.
