Built in 1980, by Albert Ortis Boat Building Incorporated of Krotz Springs, Louisiana (hull #41) as the National Navigtor for National Marine Service Incorporated of St. Louis, Missouri.
In 1985, the tug was acquired by Compass Marine Services Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana. Where she was renames as the Compass Navigator.
In 1990, she was acquired by Southern Marine Services Incorporated of Port Allen, Louisiana. Where the tug retained her name. And continued to be operated by Compass Marine Services Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana.
In 1992, the tug was returned to Southern Marine Services Incorporated of Port Allen, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Charles M.
In 1998, the tug was acquired by American Commercial Barge Line LLC. of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Where she was reamed as the Martin J. Pellegrin.
Repowered in 2013, she is powered by two Cummins Q19 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 7:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,320 horsepower.
