Built in 2000, by SeaBoats Incorporated of Fall River, Massacusetts (hull #5) as the Vernon C. for SeaBoats Incorporated of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

The tug was designed by Naval Architect Jonathan Laiby of Woods Hole, Massachusetts for Donald Church Sea Boats Incorporated of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

In 2013, the tug was acquired by Gellatly and Criscione Services Corporation of Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Where she was renamed as the Mary Gellatly.

In 2020, she was acquired by Coeymans Marine Towing Company of Coeymans, New York. Where the tug was renamed as the Mackenzie Rose.

Powered by two, keel cooled, Alco 12-251E diesel engines. With Haley reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.25:1. Turning two, 10(in), stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 4,500 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 65kW generators, driven by two Caterpillar 3304 diesel engines. With a third 99kW generator set, driven by one, Caterpillar 3304 diesel engine. The tug's capacities are 56,000 gallons of fuel, 1,600 gallons of lube oil, and 5,800 gallons of water.

The towing equipment consists of a single drum, hydraulic, Almon-Johnson towing winch. Outfitted with 2,400(ft) of 2(in) towing wire.
