Built in 2000, by Dakota Creek Industries of Anacortes, Washington (hull #40) as the Aware for Crowley Marine Services Incorporated of San Francisco, California.

She was the third Alert class constructed for Crowley Marine Services Incorporated by Dakota Creek Industries.

The Alert class was designed as a general purpose Prevention and Response Tug. These tugs are equipped for firefighting, emergency response, and oil spill recovery. The vessels have oil spill recovery, and a storage capability for up to 43,000 gallons of recovered oil.

The design features included accommodations for up to sixteen personnel. As well as Schuyler fendering, a Markey TDS-40 towing winch, Step Warmfloor heated decking, 2,000(ft) of oil recovery boom, and on-deck stowage for two, oil spill recovery skiffs.

Powered by two, twelve cylinder, Caterpillar 3612-B diesel engines. With Rolls Royce Aquamaster z drives. She is rated at 10,192 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 190kW generator sets. The tug's capacities are 129,444 gallons of fuel, 51,777 gallons of ballast, and 9,246 gallons of water.

Her deck equipment consists of bow winch. Outfitted 400(ft) of 9(in) plasma line. A Markey TDS-40 towing winch. Outfitted with 2,500(ft) of 2.5(in) towing wire, with 400(ft) 1.8(in) wire on the "work drum."
