Built in 1966, by Burton Shipyard, Incorporated of Port Arthur, Texas (hull #369).
(It is unclear whether the tug was renamed as the Socrates before or as a result of her being acquired by Allied Transportation.)
She is a twin screw tug powered by twin eight cylinder Fairbanks Morse Diesel engines for a rated 3,200 horsepower.
Her main engines where taken from two retired Long Island Railroad locomotives (#1504 and #1509). The engines where rebuilt before being installed in the Socrates.
In 2012, the tug was reported as sold to foreign interests.
