Built in 1972, by Jeffboat Incorporated of Jeffersonville, Indiana (hull #2997) as the D. Ray Miller for the American Commercial Barge Lines Incorporated of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

In 2001, the tug was acquired by the Marquette Transportation Company of Jefferson, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Greg Minton.

In 2004, the Marquette Transportation Company renamed the tug was the David L. Fields.

Powered by two, EMD 16-645E7B diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.192:1. Turning two, Avdl, 110(in) by 105(in) stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers, mounted in kort nozzles. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 6,140 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, John Deer 6081, generator sets. The tug's capacities are 102,900 gallons of fuel, and 3,001 gallons of lube oil.
