The Great Lakes Company was incorporated in New Jersey on July 7th, 1899. The company grew to a full service marine transportation company. Forming a group of companies engaged in marine businesses operating on the East coast, Gulf coast, and West coast of the United States. As well as, in Puerto Rico, in the islands of the Caribbean, and internationally.
The Great Lakes Group of Companies include: In 1997, the founding the Puerto Rico Towing and Barge Company. Specializing in transportation services in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the islands of the Caribbean.
In 1998, the company founded Tugz International. Specializing in vessel design, construction, and chartering.
Soo Line Handling Services, Incorporated provides line handling services at the United Stated Army Corps of Engineers at the Soo Locks, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; and Wind Logistics Incorporated participates in the developing off-shore wind turbine industry.
