Founded in 1923 at Charleston, South Carolina by Captain Samuel A. Guilds. Guilds' nephew, Lewis Seabrook, later took over and led the company for many years.

In 1987, the company was acquired by McAllister Towing of New York, New York and became McAllister Towing of Charleston, South Carolina.
